چکیده

The control plane has emerged as the key entity of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU-T) Automatic Switched Optical Network (ASON) architecture, enabling both soft-permanent and switched connection establishment. The fundamental control plane functional module is the Optical Connection Controller (OCC) which in turn, is divided in four sub-modules. The Link Resource Manager (LRM) is the sub-module responsible for maintaining both control and transport plane resources. This paper presents the one implemented in the ASON/GMPLS CARISMA network. The included experimental results reflect its applicability in metropolitan environments.

Deployment and Validation of GMPLS-Controlled Multi-layer Integrated Routing over the ASON/GMPLS CARISMA Test-bed

The efficient accommodation of subwavelength client flows on optical channels is a current challenge for the optimization of resources in GMPLS-controlled optical networks. While the capacity of the optical channels usually exceeds 10 Gbps, connection requests show finer granularity. This paper concentrates on the design and implementation of the ASON/GMPLS CARISMA test-bed a GMPLS-controlled g...

Control Plane Protection Using Link Management Protocol (LMP) in the ASON/GMPLS CARISMA Network

In the ITU-T ASON architecture, the control plane is responsible for providing intelligence to the network. The GMPLS paradigm pleads for a separation between the control plane and the forwarding plane. If the control plane is deployed disjoint from the forwarding plane, recovery mechanisms to ensure its proper operation are required. In this paper, on one hand, a quasi-associated mode backup c...

Differences between Ason and Gmpls Network Models

Generalized multiprotocol label switching (GMPLS) [1] is a set of network control protocols designed to realize a next-generation highperformance transport network that uses control plane functions. From the architectural perspective, GMPLS-based transport networks are divided into two categories. One is the automatically switched optical network (ASON) architecturebased transport network [2] o...
